Ohio State Highway Patrol cracking down on distracted driving

Findlay, OH (13abc Action New) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to keep their eyes on the roadways while driving, as part of an effort to stop distracted driving.

The Findlay District is beginning a new campaign involving education and enforcement to address what troopers say has become a growing problem in Northwest Ohio.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported 17,827 crashes in 2014 were a result of a distracted driver.

This year, nearly half of all accidents are caused due to drivers not paying attention.

Troopers say they will be on the look out for any non-driving activity, such as texting and driving, that causes a person to take their hands off the wheel or look away from the road.

The distracted driving campaign runs until the end of the month.
