TOLEDO (13abc Action News) - Two men are behind bars accused of beating a man with a broomstick. Police say the man was attacked in broad daylight. It happened on Lagrange near Michigan.
"Two guys pulled up in a pickup truck and called me a fag. Then they rode down this way like they were about to turn around," said the victim Adrian Williams.
Police say Charles Edward Butler and Robert Paschalis turned around and attacked the victim.
"The two guys jumped out of the truck and called me a racial slur. They called me the N word. When he jumped out I grabbed a bat out of my truck hoping that they would back up and go about their business," said Williams.
Williams says he tried to fight back.
"The guy was just pounding on my head," said Williams.
According to court documents this nearby business caught the beating on surveillance video.
"The guys at the rim shop came down. A blessing from God. They came down and told them they had to leave him alone."
The 47-year old man says his eye socket was fractured and he has bruises on his body. The suspects are charged with felonious assault.
"It just caught me totally off guard. I have never see these guys in my life," said Williams.
The suspects are expected to face a judge again in June.
