Man acquitted in fatal shooting of 19-year-old found dead in Toledo garage

The man accused of murder in the 2024 shooting and killing of a 19-year-old was acquitted of the most serious charges Thursday.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The man accused of murder in the 2024 shooting and killing of a 19-year-old was acquitted of the most serious charges Thursday.

A grand jury indicted Treshaun Whitlock, 23, of Toledo, on two counts of Murder, two counts of Felonious Assault, and Having Weapons While Under Disability in the death of 19-year-old Najaye Owens.

Officers found Owens’ body in a garage behind a home in the 2000 block of Elm Street in Toledo on May 5. Police say Owens did not live at the address.

Police later arrested Whitlock for allegedly shooting and killing Owens.

Whitlock was convicted of weapons possession. He will be sentenced on March 3.
