Charging records allege he hit Miller in the head multiple times on or around February 15. The victim ended up dying as a result of the injuries.
Toledo Police officers were called out to Miller’s apartment in the 2000 block of Arlington on Feb. 16 and found her dead.
Her death was ruled a homicide on Feb. 17. The same day, police arrested Laas.
A possible motive for the attack has not been released.
Laas appeared in court on Feb. 18, where his bail was set at $3,000,000.
On Feb. 26, a Lucas County grand jury indicted Laas on two counts of murder, one count of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. The charges also come with repeat violent offender specifications.
According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction, Laas served 6.5 years in prison for a 2018 attempted murder conviction.
