Worker dies after being buried under 3 feet of tar at manufacturing plant

HOUSTON (Gray News) — A worker was killed when he was buried under three feet of tar at a facility in Houston, according to local reports.

KTRK reported that the massive spill happened Wednesday afternoon at the Martin Asphalt facility.

Officials with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said 50,000 gallons of tar were spilled and the victim was buried. He died at the scene, and his body was later recovered.

Officials initially said the spill was asphalt but later clarified that it was tar.

The cause of the spill has not yet been determined.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
