Sashem Brey
Anchor, Reporter
Toledo, OH

Sashem Brey grew up loving two things: talking and TV. Now she is proud and grateful to have made a career out of both!
Brey is an Ohio-born-and-bred, Emmy-winning Anchor and Reporter, who joined the 13 Action News team in 2004. After spending 20 years leading the #1-rated "Action News Good Morning" team as Anchor and Executive Producer, Sashem now joins Lee Conklin weeknights on "Action News at 5" and "Action News at 6".
Over her 2 decades in this region, Brey has covered a wide variety of news stories. She provided live reports to CNN as the only TV reporter on-scene when the 2005 Neo-Nazi Riots exploded in the streets of Toledo. Brey donned a life-jacket to cover extensive flooding in Findlay, traveled to Cleveland for live coverage during state elections, and nabbed an exclusive interview with American Idol runner-up (and Northwest Ohio native) Crystal Bowersox. She provided breaking news coverage from the anchor desk when an undercover Toledo Police detective was killed in the line of duty, and when a bus carrying Bluffton University students tragically crashed in Atlanta.
In recent years, she manned the anchor desk solo for months during the COVID pandemic, created, wrote and edited a weekly franchise of positive news stories called "Feel Good Friday," and led the station initiative to collect school supplies for local children in need. Sashem has also been on the air for every year of 13abc's signature "Hope for the Holidays" Toy Drive-Thru event since its inception in 2011, field-anchoring in both the early morning and evening hours.
Sashem now produces the daily "Watching Your Wallet" franchise while continuing to provide 2-3 additional stories per week, allowing her to refine the craft of editing her own work.
Brey's roots in this region run deep; over the years, she has championed special events to support local schools, The Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center (FCAPC), The Ability Center, the American Heart Association's Red Dress Luncheon, Salvation Army, Girls on the Run NW Ohio, Greater Toledo Community Foundation, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Junior League, The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, Relay for Life, and Nature's Nursery, among others.
In 2011, Brey was honored with the "Toledo 20 Under 40" Award recognizing her contributions to the community; she was also awarded the "Community Change-Maker Award" by the FCAPC in 2019 and was voted "Best TV Personality" by the Toledo City Paper for 2024.
Before arriving in Toledo, Sashem worked at E! News in Los Angeles and KLBK/KAMC in Lubbock, Texas, where she won several Associated Press awards for her anchoring and reporting. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!) while tackling behind-the-scenes work at WSYX-ABC 6/FOX 28 News and WSNY-FM in Columbus.
