Broken branches, a crushed car and a road blocked.

It's a mess that people on the 3700 block of Schneider in Toledo dealt with Monday afternoon after they say lightning hit a tree in their neighborhood.

"All we heard was, just, a loud 'boom' from the lightning," said neighborhood resident Jarred Klar.

The massive tree once stood tall in his front yard.

"We really didn't hear the tree fall," said Klar.

Klar was in the backyard with his dog when the lightning struck.

"[I] just saw a quick flash of light," said Klar. "My first instinct was to drop the umbrella and put the dog in the house."

Splitting into dozens of pieces—the tree created head aches for Klar and his neighbors. It even blocked a stretch of their street for hours.

"Luckily no one was hurt, no damage other than two small broken windows," said Klar.

Now working to pick up the pieces—Klar is counting his blessings in a situation that could have ended a lot worse.

"If we wouldn't have gone outside to take the dog out, and if it would have fallen right there, then…that's a wrap," said Klar.
