OAK HARBOR, Ohio (WTVG) - Northwest Ohio residents were awe-struck by what they saw in the sky on Thursday.

Video captured in Oak Harbor shows a rainbow-colored swirl in the clouds. The 13 First Alert Weather team says it’s likely what’s called cloud iridescence.

Tiny ice crystals in the cloud are diffracting the sunlight, causing a spectrum of colors to be visible. It’s similar to how rainbows work, but it’s instead happening due to a very thin, high-level cirrus cloud.
