QR code shows Michigan school bus inspection
LANSING, Mich. (WTVG) - As the school year nears in Michigan, getting their child to school safely is at the top of mind for many parents. Thanks to a state law, checking on your child can be as easy as using your smartphone.
Parents can scan a QR code on their child’s school bus to see how it did on its last safety inspection.
A yellow tag is issued after a vehicle inspection for any minor issues. The school district has 30 days to fix the problem.
A red tag will be issued for a more urgent problem, meaning that the bus shouldn’t be on the road.
It’s Michigan state law that all school buses must be inspected once a year.
“Michigan state police, they come here, and they go through our busses, internally, externally, under our busses, and they make sure that they’re safe for our students,” Cari Dupree, Bedford Public Schools Transportation Director said.
If the vehicle passes the inspection, a bright green tag will be placed on the bus windshield.
And, with school starting soon, safety is at the top of everyone’s minds.
“Safety on the school bus is number one,” Dupree said. “It’s the safest way to get kids to school and back.”
