TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - People have been lining up to be part of this dance for decades. And it’s something you can pick up at just about any age.

Line dancing has been a part of American culture for decades.

“It’s great to look around and see everybody in sync having a blast together,” Kimberly Ames, the owner of Kick The Dust Up With Kim said.

We saw plenty of that when we caught up with Ames at the Monclova Community Center. One of three places where she teaches line dancing.

“I went to a lesson, fell in love with it and I’ve been line dancing ever since,” Ames said.

Ames said line dancing is good for your social life as well as your mind and body.

“It’s great cardio. You’re always learning new steps and sequences, which keeps you sharp. It is very good physically and mentally. If you’ve had a terrible day, you can go take a lesson, dance get out with friends and then you forget about your worries and troubles. It’s a great time,” Ames said.

So what’s the secret to success?

“As with anything, practice, practice, practice. If you practice and put in the time and effort you’ll get good at it,” Ames said.

Along with the Monclova Community Center, Ames also teaches at Jackman Road Elementary in Temperance and Wheelin’ On The Rocks in Toledo. She focuses on beginner through intermediate lessons.

Ames also also does parties and events.
