BRYAN, Texas (KBTX/Gray News) - A car salesman at a dealership in Texas made a disturbing discovery on a customer’s cellphone this week, leading to the man’s arrest.

Robert May Jr., 60, of Caldwell, was arrested Wednesday at the dealership on a charge of Possession of Child Pornography and remains in jail on a bond set at $9,000.

The Bryan Police Department said May was having difficulty transferring a bank document from his phone to the dealership, so he gave his phone to an employee and asked for assistance. The salesman told police that when he opened the files on the phone, he discovered inappropriate images of children.

Police said the dealership employee immediately notified management, and police were called to the business.

An officer investigating the claim was permitted to go through May’s phone and confirmed that the child pornography was found on the device.

A probable cause affidavit said May is currently on parole until February 2038 for two separate cases of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Both cases are related to incidents that occurred in the late 1990s.
