Temperance man killed in overnight Monroe Co. crash

MONROE Co., Mich. (WTVG) - A Temperance man was killed and a Toledo man was injured in a crash that happened just before 3 a.m. Friday in Erie Township, Michigan.

A press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash; however, authorities are still working to determine which person was driving the car at the time of the crash.

According to the press release, Dustin Striggow, 26, of Toledo and Tyler Collins, 27, of Temperance, were in a 2001 Honda CR-V driving south on Suder Avenue. The driver failed to follow a curve in the road and hit a utility pole, causing power lines to fall to the ground.

After striking the pole, the car continued to hit a tree and flip over. Collins was ejected from the car during the crash.

Collins and Striggow were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Toledo. Collins was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to the release, Striggow suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the press release, neither Collins nor Striggow was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
