Arrest made in hit-and-run crash that seriously injured Adrian teen

ADRIAN, Mich. (WTVG) - Michigan police have made an arrest in the August 2024 crash that severely injured a teen boy riding his bike.

Adrian Police have not released the name of the person facing charges until they are arraigned in court, which is expected Wednesday.

Dakota Courington, now 16, was hit at the intersection of Clinton and Chestnut, with the driver speeding away.

“Yeah, well, we were starting to lose hope, too, that we were never going to find out who it was,” said Jack Courington, Dakota’s father. “I can’t be any more happier with my community as I am more and more every day. They have come through for Dakota. They have showed their support for Dakota.”

He was still recovering at Mott’s Children’s Hospital at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor when checked in on him in May. His father told 13 Action News just earlier this month that he is still non-verbal and in a care center.

“He’s moving around more in bed and he’s starting to cry more because he wants to come home,” added Jack.

Now, Jack and his wife Carrie are asking the community for patience when it comes to the court proceedings.

“I feel bad for her to a certain point because I know at this point it’s, you know, it’s got to be hard to realize that you may be going to jail for a long time, but on the other hand, a lot of me, I’m glad it’s happened now and it’s over with so Dakota can get justice, too.” said Jack. “Even though they did, she did what she did to him, she’s still a human being, and I do want people not to be aggressive towards her. Let the courts handle what they need to handle for it.”

Adrian Police say they plan to release more information about the arrest and the suspect after the arraignment Wednesday, Aug, 20, 2025.
