Brown Bag Food Project gets a helping hand
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) - A local non-profit that helps thousands of community members every month had to shut its doors back in August.
The pantry in Bowling Green didn’t have enough food on it’s shelves to serve those in need. Now we’re rolling up our sleeves to help give a Helping Hand.
Brown Bag Food Project in Bowling Green has been a staple in the community for more than a decade to make sure families have food on the table, but the organization that helps others found itself in need as well.
After the Department of Agriculture made cuts to programs that provide funding for food banks earlier this year, the two food banks aren’t able to purchase as much food as they used to, which means Brown Bag has less food to give.
“With the cuts, I mean the supply from Seagate has been significantly less than what it usually is,” said Amy Holland, of Brown Bag Food Project. “People come once every 30 days so we want to make sure they have enough to sustain through the 30 days.”
That’s why they turned to the community for support.
“It’s a really good feeling. We get a lot of community support so it’s always nice to know that everywhere we’re able to get the help that we need.”
Yark Automotive group is stepping up to the plate to give a helping hand: a check for $1,300.
The money from the dealership will help the Brown Bag Food Project supply things like meat, dairy, eggs and hygiene products.
“We really appreciate it. It’s really going to help us out, with the amount of clients and donations being lower than they usually are. This definitely comes out a really good time.”
