TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Some residents of the Parklane mobile home community on Lewis Avenue are bringing awareness to their ongoing noise complaint.

Tamela Steffen said it’s a banging sound that and her neighbors hear almost everyday and it’s worse at night.

“Wakes me up out of dead sleep, scares me,” Steffen said. “I have a heart condition so, when you get scared out of dead sleep, it’s probably not great.”

She compared the noise to someone beating a train car with a baseball bat.

Here’s how another, anonymous resident described it.

“It sounds like if you beat on a 55 gallon drum, right next to the house,” the resident said.

That resident said the sound became an issue about two years ago.

13 Action News was also told there were multiple other residents in the mobile home park, who didn’t want to be on camera, have the same complaint.

13 Action News heard distant banging while at Parklane too.

The culprit? Steffen and her neighbors said it’s Hometown Food Company on West Laskey, right around the corner from the mobile home park.

13 Action News reached out to the company.

An HSE manager on Tuesday said that he would put together a response. That same evening, he said he was waiting on corporate approval. But, Wednesday morning 13 Action News was told they have no comment.

Meanwhile, a city of Toledo spokesperson said they received a noise complaint regarding unloading trucks at the facility. The spokesperson said:

We received a complaint in late December 2025 regarding unloading trucks. At the time of the investigation, the unloading had already been completed. They were made aware of the issue and assured us they would remind their personnel to use the correct unloading equipment, specifically vibration pads instead of a hammer.

Please encourage residents to call Engage Toledo to report noise complaints so that we can investigate and resolve any issues.

The residents at Parklane said they hope speaking to 13 Action News and sharing their experience, leads to a permanent solution.

“I would like to see the noise stop,” the anonymous resident said.
