TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - No mail and no answers. One Toledo man said his mail hasn’t been delivered to his house in months.

After not getting anywhere with the United States Postal Service, he called 13 Action News.

Michael Shartzer lives on Lawnview Avenue off Dorr Street, by the University of Toledo.

He said in late 2025, he noticed he was missing bank statements and other important paperwork. So, in December, he went to the post office.

“Walked out with almost three grocery handle bags filled with mail, six months worth of mail,” Shartzer said.

Shartzer was told that a dog bit a mail carrier over the summer and eventually delivery stopped.

He said he’s tired of having to leave the work early to get his mail at the post office before it closes.

“About a month ago I emailed the post office to explain the situation and nobody’s ever responded to me,” Shartzer said. “Not a phone call, not an email, not nothing.”

13 Action News spoke to another person on Lawnview Avenue who said they are in the same boat. They said it had been nearly two months since a delivery came to their house.

A USPS spokesperson sent a statement:

Aggressive and unrestrained animals are a serious issue. One bite can cause a serious injury; they are painful, yet they can be prevented. There is an unrestrained dog roaming on Lawnview Ave, and two employees have been attacked by the dog. Due to safety concerns, mail delivery has been temporarily suspended. Management has been in communication with the owner about the issue.

A follow-up statement said:

Because the dog is roaming loose in the neighborhood, there are some homes impacted around the dog owner’s home. Delivery has been suspended for about 4 weeks. The dog warden has been notified.

Customers can rent P.O. Boxes at their local Post Office if they’d like but that would still require them to travel to retrieve their mail from the Post Office.

So, deliver their mail," Shartzer said. “I don’t have a dog why am I not getting mail?”

13 Action News spoke to some other residents on Lawnview Avenue who don’t have a mail delivery issue. They claim dogs in the neighborhood have been a problem in the past. One person even remembered a time that a dog went after a mail carrier last summer.

Shartzer called the whole situation ridiculous.

13 Action News asked USPS what still needs to be done to resume regular delivery to Shartzer and other residents. As of Wednesday afternoon, the spokesperson didn’t answer.

The station also reached out to Toledo City Councilman John Hobbs III, whose district covers Lawnview Avenue. He said he will work on this and keep us posted.
