Longtime Yankees radio voice John Sterling dies at 87

(Gray News) - Legendary sports broadcaster John Sterling has died, the MLB announced Monday morning.

He was 87.

Sterling had a unique style and passion for play-by-play game calling for the New York Yankees from 1989 to 2024.

He called more than 5,400 regular-season Yankees games, MLB reported, and 225 more in the postseason.

Sterling’s career also included time with the Atlanta Braves and Hawks, the New York Nets and Islanders, and the Baltimore Bullets.
