BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB/Gray News) - A 26-year-old woman died after a fall from a third-story balcony at an apartment complex near Louisiana State University.

Police said it happened just before 8 p.m. on May 25 at Tradition 777, a complex in the 700 block of Ben Hur Road.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 26-year-old Taylor Ganey.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the circumstances leading to the fall remain under investigation and no arrests have been made. Investigators also said there were no signs of a structural problem with the balcony.

An autopsy will be performed.

A spokesperson for Tradition 777 did confirm Ganey was not a resident.

In a statement, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections said Ganey was a lieutenant and a member of the security team at the Louisiana State Penitentiary since Feb. 10, 2020.

“Lt. Ganey’s positivity, professionalism, and camaraderie left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of working alongside her. Her absence will be deeply felt throughout the Department, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” Falon Brown, press secretary for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, said in a statement. “As the circumstances surrounding Lt. Ganey’s untimely death remain under investigation, the Department has no further comment at this time.”
