BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - A federal jury has awarded millions of dollars to a family who lost their son in a pool drowning.

This week, a federal jury awarded the family $7.5 million.

According to Tobias & Comer Law, the firm representing the family, 18-year-old Reginald Adams was found submerged in the water after going down a slide connected to the pool while at the Riverchase Country Club in August 2023.

Adams was said to have suffered a brain injury and was pronounced dead, just weeks after graduating from Pelham High School.

The lawsuit claimed that the company that operates the country club did not have two lifeguards on duty at the time Adams drowned and that the club did not comply with mandatory public pool safety requirements.

Heritage Golf Group, which operates the Riverchase Country Club, did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the situation.
