A tradition for some people in the Toledo-area is that when their team loses the border battle they have to jump into the Maumee River.

Dozens of Buckeye and Wolverine fans filled the boat launch near the Toledo Zoo to see people take the plunge into the Maumee.

This group of fans gets together every year for the big game and they make the bet where the fans of the losing team have to go for a dip in the Maumee River after the game.

Michigan was the loser of that tense double overtime game in Columbus.

The loyal wolverine fans made good on the bet and jumped in the river.

"It was a part of the bet. We lost, fair and square, I had to jump in. I had to do it. I had to," said Heather Duenas.

The water's temperature was sitting at a brisk 45 degrees.
