TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The City of Toledo plans to begin disconnecting water for those who have outstanding balances on their account following a COVID-era moratorium.

The new developments were revealed at a Toledo City Council committee meeting on Tuesday. The disconnection process will resume next Monday, June 23.

Documentation from the city said water disconnections haven’t happened since before March 2020.

The city did, however, threaten to disconnect water service for residents who didn’t allow the city to change out their water meters. That was the only brief time period when disconnections were happening since the early days of the COVID pandemic.

Customers will be notified first, with the first disconnections in happening within about two weeks.

The city will notify those with a delinquent account in writing and give a ten day notice. After that time, those who still haven’t made a payment or enrolled in a payment plan will have a door hanger placed on their property. Within five days of that, your service will be shut off.
