Two killed in Erie County crash

Impact takes lives of 15-year-old passenger and driver of pick-up truck

MILAN TWP., Ohio (WTVG) - A teenage girl and a 49-year-old man are dead and a woman is in the hospital after a head-on crash in Erie County. That’s according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. It happened at about 3:46 PM Friday, May 21, 2021.

In a news release, troopers say Nicholas M. Barylski, 49, of Huron, was driving a 2020 GMC Sierra east on Mason Rd. when it went left of center and struck a car headed in the opposite direction. A passenger in that car, Alli Kurdinat, 15, of Norwalk, did not survive. The driver of the car had serious injuries and was air lifted to a hospital in Cleveland.

Two Vehicle Fatal Crash on Mason Road in Erie County

MILAN TOWNSHIP – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle double-fatal crash that occurred on May 21, 2021 at approximately 03:46 P.M. The crash occurred on Mason Road in between State Route 13 and Old Mason Road in Milan Township, Erie County.

Unit #1: Nicholas M. Barylski, age 49, of Huron, Ohio was operating a 2020 GMC Sierra. Mr. Barylski sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Barylski was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.

Unit #2: Veronica J. Stanley, age 36, of Norwalk, Ohio was operating a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. Mrs. Stanley sustained serious injuries and was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio by MetroHealth-Metro Life Flight. Mrs. Stanley was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.

Passenger: Alli J. Kurdinat, age 15, of Norwalk, Ohio suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Miss Kurdinat was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.

Details of Crash: Unit #1 (GMC Sierra) was eastbound on Mason Road. Unit #2 (Hyundai Santa Fe) was westbound on Mason Road. Unit #1 failed to negotiate a curve, went left of center, and started to go off the left side of the roadway. Unit #1 struck Unit #2 as Unit #2 was negotiating the curve. Unit #1 then overturned and came to final rest on the north side of Mason Road. Mr. Barylski was ejected from his vehicle as it overturned. Unit #2 came to final rest on Mason Road.

The possibility of alcohol and/or drug use is still being investigated at this time. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, North Central EMS, Milan Township Fire and EMS, MetroHealth-Metro Life Flight, and Central Automotive & Radiator.
