Dan Smith

Dan joined the 13abc First Warning Weather team in February 2019, stepping into the role of weekend evening meteorologist -- and now taking up the role of noon/4pm meteorologist.

Having grown up in Windsor, Ontario, Dan is no stranger to the ever-changing weather of the Great Lakes – nor Toledo itself, making many fond childhood memories at the zoo. Early on in his life, he would watch severe weather coverage on the Detroit stations just across the border, and was fascinated by finding his town on the map right under the worst of the storm. After a few short years of that, he was convinced of his career path.

Dan earned his Meteorology degree from Florida Tech in 2013, where he was bitten by both the acting and singing bug in his first semester. He credits that time with his ability to combine science and storytelling on-air at KLST in San Angelo, Texas, where he served as chief meteorologist for 5 years covering everything from flooding to tornadoes to baseball-sized hail. He received his Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in April of 2019.

When he's not keeping an eye to the sky, chances are he has both eyes glued to a hockey game (Go Leafs Go!) or heading out to Cedar Point for a run at the latest and greatest scream machines. His wife, Ashley, also produces 13abc Action News at 4pm – and both are glad to make the jump to Toledo!
